Gosette Lubondo was born in 1993 in Kinshasa, where she lives and works.

She was immersed in photography from an early age because her father was a photographer. Gosette studied visual communication at ABA Kinshasa and graduated in 2014.

She produced her first landmark series in 2016. Appealed by abandoned buildings imprinted with the marks of time, she took over a disused train in Kinshasa railway station, in which she depicted imaginary passengers. The series, called Imaginary Trip, was a resounding success and launched her career.

Two years later, Gosette continued this “imaginary trip” in a former school, founded in 1936 in what is now Kongo Central, and to all intents and purposes abandoned. This would be Imaginary Trip II, a series produced as part of her photography residency at the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac (Paris). The museum exhibited it in 2020 as part of the exhibition “À toi appartient le regard et (…) la liaison infinie entre les choses”.

Gosette created several other series, including Terre de lait, terre de miel in 2022, shot in the ruins of President Mobutu’s palace in Gbadolite in northern DR Congo, and Imaginary Trip III in 2024, featuring former industrial sites in Lukula in Kongo Central. Her latest series is ongoing and has just been presented in the DR Congo pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale.

Gosette has won several awards, including the 2026 Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award.

Her work is part of an in-depth reflection on the archive, performative nature and systems of visibility inherited from colonial modernity. At the crossroads between collective memory and embodied fiction, her photography explores how spaces bear the traces of interrupted stories and unfulfilled political promises. Influenced by Pan-African movements, she is approaching locations as palimpsests: as stratified spaces in which institutional memory, generational lived experience, and imaginary projection are superimposed on each other.

The gallery will host a solo show of Gosette’s work in late 2026 to mark her 10-year career anniversary.
