This peaceful painting calls to mind quite a typical Kinshasa scene. A man, a street vendor, is taking a rest before resuming his quest for customers. However, certain details give the scene a spiritual and metaphorical slant. Cherubs seem to be keeping watch over the sleeping man - as the guardians of life, they have in their possession some hand sanitizer, which purifies. The small candle is placed on top of the merchandise that provides this man with a living, as a symbol of hope and gratitude.
