In this work from the Notre Histoire series exploring the colonisation of the Congo, Catheris illustrates a quote from the famous explorer Stanley, “Without the railroad, Congo is not a worth a penny”, and implicitly refers to the horrendous working conditions endured by the railway construction workers.
