This vaguely disturbing checkpoint, controlled by characters who look like they are out of a Western, marks one of the gateways to the Pakadjuma district in the outskirts of Kinshasa. People do not venture to the area, yet it is brimming with heroes, because, as Gaël Maski tells us, surviving in this sort of shanty town is a daily feat.
