The good old days were the time of jubilation following independence, the dancing bars, and bell bottom trousers, and also of youth. Chéri Chérin depicts his own youth, by recreating his meeting with his future wife, who was sat at a neighbouring table on a Kinshasa terrace. The artist’s decision to use black and white plunges us into the photo reports of the period.
