The allure of women is a recurring theme in Congolese popular painting. A voluptuous beauty is making her way down the street and the men are knocked for six and totally shocked. Chéri Benga uses dark lines to create contours, plays with flat tints of bright colours and the sheer simplicity of the lines and the composition, to let the subject speak for itself.
